Smt. J. Eashwari Bai was a remarkable figure in Indian public life—a rare star who emerged on the nation’s political landscape with purpose and distinction. She began her career as a dedicated schoolteacher and went on to establish a school for children in Chilakalguda, Secunderabad, a locality marked by lower socio-economic conditions. Her efforts significantly contributed to meeting the educational needs of underserved children in the area.
Her political journey was equally impactful. She served as a legislator and was twice elected as an MLA from the Yellareddy Constituency in Nizamabad district, Andhra Pradesh. She led the RPI opposition group in the A.P. Assembly, held the position of President of the Republican Party of India (RPI), was Vice Chairperson of the Telangana Praja Samithi, and was the Founder President of the Civic Rights Committee.
Smt. Eashwari Bai also served as Chairperson of the Women and Child Welfare Corporation under the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Deeply committed to the upliftment of women and children, she fought against illiteracy, poverty, and various forms of social injustice. As chairperson, she championed vocational training initiatives aimed at empowering women economically and enabling them to secure gainful employment.
More than a political leader, Smt. Eashwari Bai was a visionary committed to the advancement of education and healthcare. In keeping with her ideals, her only daughter, Dr. J. Geetha Reddy, along with her husband, Dr. Ramachandra Reddy, established the Eashwari Bai Memorial College and School of Nursing. This institution was founded with the vision of offering professional nursing education to women and addressing the healthcare needs of the community by preparing highly competent and compassionate nurses.
